I was craving for a bowl of black wan tan mee, and my girlfriend kind enough to google good wan tan mee around Johor Bahru for me. Poh Kee Wan Tan Mee is on the top of the list when googled, I also found its website and below is the brief introduction of Poh Kee Wan Tan Mee:

"In the early days of Johor Bahru, there is a small town where the fragrant aroma of pandan leaves drifts through the streets. It leaves such a deep impression that this town is known as Kampung Pandan. Most of the residents in this town worked as farmers and it is often said that their friendship bond is stronger than the aroma of pandan leaves. It is in this town during the early 70s where bowls of delicious Poh Kee “Wantan Mee” were served to the villagers with a purpose to share bowlfuls of human warmth. So, whenever you have a bowl of Poh Kee “Wantan Mee”, you will enjoy not only just a delicious meal, but also appreciate the warm friendship among the villagers that has been passed down from one generation to another"

And so, the introduction made me feels more interesting and lit my desire to find out more of this famous and traditional wan tan mee. 
The restaurant is quite hidden from the main road, but surprisingly, it was crowded when I reached there.

It was too crowded till I cant get an indoor seat, forced to have my seat at the smoking area. Nearly suffocated. lol. We ordered a bowl of soup wan tan mee, a dried black wan tan mee and some side dishes.

There are three sizes to choose from, we choose the smallest 1, but it is more than enough to fill my stomach. The Char Siew is not the typical Hong Kong roasted char siew, this is the only flaw that disappointed me. I super like its soup, very flavourful to match with the springy, al-dente and fine noodles. The warm soup definitely satisfy my fussy stomach.
Signature Poh Kee Wantan Mee 招牌云吞面 (Dry)

The signature dried version of wan tan mee, the taste is quite different from normal wan tan mee, which emits more aroma of sesame oil. The noodles is cooked just right, successfully retain its springiness. As the introduction by their website, this wan tan mee reflects the simplicity of village lifestyle.
Yong Tau Fu 酿豆腐- RM1 per pcs
The Johor styled yong tau foo (stuffed vegetable and beancurd), the fillings consist more minced pork rather than fish paste. The minced pork is very well seasoning, but I still prefer the Ampang styled Yong Tau Fu which is filled by fish paste.

On a very special day, I was looking for cheap and affordable Japanese meal in town and subsequently I found this The Bento House which is located in Indahpura Kulai. If you are heading to Johor Premium Outlets, the landmark of this town, you may want to try this Bneto House out. It is quite near to JPO, around 5 minutes driving distance away.

I super like the design here,  especially the wooden signature board with Japanese words of "Bento House" and the red lanterns, the Japanese infusion definitely  impressed me.
Red Plum Yogurt Drink  红梅优格  RM4.90
I expect it to me more creamy and yogurt-ish, and I even double confirmed with the waiter that this is the red plum yogurt drink that I ordered. The colour doesn't show yogurt, and definitely the taste did not reflect the yogurt was added. Never mind, as a red plum lover, I still accepted this chilled and refreshing beverage.
Enoki Buta Maki 金针菇猪肉卷  RM4.90
This is not the first time I go for this Enoki Buta Maki. It looks over salty, but tasted quite well, the combination of pork and enoki are just too good. The special made sauce definitely plays an super important role in perfect this small snack! Well matched.
Teriyaki Chicken Bento 鸡肉照烧便当  RM10.90
Teriyaki Chicken Bento comprises fragrant Japanese rice, teriyaki chicken, braised egg, salad, miso soup and fruit. A very worthy meal indeed, a whole set only costed me RM10.90. The only flaw is that the chicken is too salty. 
Saba Shioyaki & Tempura Bento  青花鱼便当  RM15.90
This is another value meal I got from Bento House. A big piece of Saba, two pieces of seafood tempuras normally will cost me at least RM20, but this set here just costed me RM15.90. Very contended to enjoy this comprehensive Japanese Bento! 

I definitely will come back for their fish! Will try their salmon and unagi!

After a week stayed at Singapore, finally I have my short break back to my homeland. The first thing I did is searching for meal. In this case, I look into a place where is very close to border, Sutera Utama. At that point, I just noticed that this place was almost occupied by restaurants or cafe. Here definitely another perfect place for those always explore into new food eatery. 
Here today, start with a Taiwanese cuisine restaurant. Once step into this restaurant, I can smell the comfortable and cosy atmosphere of this restaurant. Beside that, this restaurant was well serving in Taiwanese cuisine as I have gone through all their extensive menu. 
Ample place and good dining ambiance as well.

Passion Fruit Aiyu Jelly 爱玉柠檬  RM5.90
Something must try in Taiwanese shop is their signature beverage like bubble milk tea, herbal jelly, papaya milk and so. Just a beginning, order a glass of Passion Fruit Aiyu Jelly. Instead of putting in lemon, they replaced it with passion fruit, very refreshing, but I still prefer it to pair with lemon anyway. 
Jasmine Green Tea 茉香绿茶  RM4.90
And sudden on my mind, I think of drink a glass of ice green tea too. Therefore, order this Jasmine Green Tea. I like this one, it has very strong Jasmine aroma which can refreshing my mind. Nice!
Tom Yam Hot Pot 东炎煲  RM10.90
I ordered a bowl of white rice to go with the tom yam hot pot. The portion is quite decent, but the ingredients are not so interesting as I thought. I can't find fresh seafood in the pot, which is quite let me down, I only saw fish balls, crab sticks, seafood beancurd, those common steamboat ingredients.
However, the spicy and sour taste of the tom yam is till enough appetizing.
Braised Pork Noodles 红烧猪肉汤面  RM8.90
This is another dish that I put high expectation on it too. The soup is quite ok, but the braised pork was just too tough. The pork should be braised longer, I prefer it to be more soft and tender.

Overall, the standard of foods is just of the average. They should put in more efforts to improve and make it closer to the Taiwanese taste.

~The Ultimate Winner of Ricoh Comic Contest is revealed~ 

Ricoh (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a leader in the office solutions industry held the ‘Make a Change in 100 Minutes’ comic contest finale today at Berjaya Times Square. A total of 20 finalists were selected based on several criteria, including the relevancy of the entries to the theme and adherence to the terms and conditions of participation to win amazing prizes worth RM 10,000 in total.

The Ricoh Comic Contest Finale was structured differently from other contest. Rather than letting the results to be determined by Facebook votes only, Ricoh’s management has also voted for their favourite comic strips. The top 20 selected finalists were:-

“When we created this event, we want to challenge the public to imagine what they could change and tell us about it by expressing them through comic. The idea was to bring out the latent talent in people and challenge them to create something positive,” said Peter Wee, Chief Operating Officer of Ricoh Malaysia. 

These 20 comic strips went through another voting session during the finale day. From 10.30am, the public were seen to vote for their favourite comic strip and took part in a host of activities such as caricature drawing, lucky draw sessions and Q&A contests. 

The famously-known comic artist for the “Kuso High School” series and received the “Best Comic Strip” award from Mandarin Comics Society of Malaysia last year was present in the event. “The quality of the comics that made it into the Top 20 is impressive and overall, we’re impressed with the quality of the artwork. From this, it’s certain there is a lot of talent out there in Malaysia and hopefully this contest will encourage the participants to hone their skills,” said Keith Teo, a member of the judging panel. 

Anuar Hasan emerged as the grand prize winner and walked away with RM5, 000 cash and an SP 100 SF e (print, scan, fax and photocopy functions), while Ernest Ng won the title of 1st runner up and took home RM 3,000 with an SP 100 SU e (print, copy and scan functions). Meanwhile, Firdaus Husain emerged as the 2nd runner up and he took home RM 1, 500 with an SP 100 e (print function) respectively. Further to that, Hou Ee Fan got the most “Like” comic strip in Facebook and took home a Ricoh CX6 camera. 

“It was not easy selecting a winner out of the 20 entries, but we had to be stringent in applying ourselves to the task,” said Peter Wee. “I feel that all those who have submitted their comics are already winners!”

Upon I touched down at Singapore, I received a sms from my friends asking me out for dinner. Going out in Singapore is not a big problem at here, every places can be also reached by public transports. We met at Bugis, as one of the favourite tourist spots and also a shopping heaven. Beside that, I accidentally found out something special hidden at their back alley. 
I was sitting in front of this stall and noticed that mostly their customer are china man, whose slang and way to talk and greet is totally different. I know that Sze Chuan people like to eat spicy food and today, will try on their special homemade chili.
Other than noodles, they also offer their original recipe bread from China. Its ingredient was either meat or vegetables, depends on your desired choices. But bear in mind, be patient while waiting the bread to be prepared, it takes some times.
Pork Ribs Noodles  手工排骨面 SGD 4
One of the benefit to have meal in Singapore is that, if they sell you pork ribs noodles, they mean it, and you can see a lot of pork ribs in the bowl. Their generous portion of ingredients never disappoint me.
Here is the chili which I mentioned before. What I know is the chili was really spicy and non-spicy taker should not be trying on this. Warning!
Minced Pork Noodles 手工炸酱面  SGD4
The minced pork on the top was very flavourful indeed, fresh and juicy tomatoes and cucumber slices are added to balance up the meal. Their noodles are handmade and therefore the texture is extremely springy.

On a random Sunday, my family and I went to Pulau Betong to look for the beautiful beach and have a breeze from the sea. The beach was quite hidden and we spent quite some time to find the hidden gem in Penang. I remember, it was a wonderful evening, we were sitting on the beach to wait for the sun set. The scenery was really great and did not disappoint me at all! My eyes and my mind definitely enjoyed it, but how about my stomach? Where to cure the starving stomach? Being heard that Teluk Kumbar is famous with its seafood, we went there without second thought, seeking the famous seafood restaurant. Did not so much research on google, and relied on GPS, it led us to this Hai Boey Seafood Restaurant, which is located at the seaside.

Various live seafood in aquarium are displayed at the restaurant, pick your favourite seafood or fish from the aquarium for cooking. If you go for luxury meal, do try out their special crabs and lobster!
I was so surprised by their creativity and efforts in pleasing its customers! Aquarium with ornamental fishes just below the wash basin. Lovely enough with the colourful cute fishes swimming around!
Huang Di Noodles 皇帝面  RM20
The noodles was served immediately after we placed the order, with the unbelievable speed. The noodles was not bad, just a little disappointed with their prawns. Perhaps I put too high expectation on it as it is a seafood restaurant, the prawns were not fresh and the texture was bad. 
Japanese Style Stuff Eggplant 日式茄子  RM15
Distinguished from the normal Yong Tau Foo, the eggplant is sliced into extremely thin slices and stuffed with fish paste. This dish is one of their signature's and shouldn't be missed out. The eggplants have very good and crunchy texture while the fish paste was very flavourful too, cannot help myself from reaching it for more!
Fried Taufu with Loofah  胜瓜豆腐  RM12 
This is my first time for the combination of Taufu and Loofah, super like it, the beancurds were freshly made and therefore it was not only fragrant with the soy bean and also super silky smooth, perhaps egg is added in perfect it. Loofah does not have strong flavour but very smooth and added some extra vitamin C to the dish.
Hot and Sour Lala  酸辣花甲  RM15 
The Lala were steamed with cili padi, gingers, garlics, parsley and lime, and therefore the dish was very flavourful, the sour spicy taste was very appetizing too. Please do not waste the gravy underneath it, it goes well with steamed rice!
Kung Po Mantis Shrimps  宫保虾姑肉  RM15
The mantis was just too normal and there is nothing special to shout with.
Coral Grouper in Claypot  生煲七彩东星斑 
The most pricey item on the dining table. The price of most live seafood are assorted and determined by  market price. On the night of our visit, the price of coral grouper fish was around RM 25/ 100gram, so this fish with weight of approximately 600gm costed us RM150! Simply done with ginger and parsley in a claypot, but it was surprisingly good and delicious! The fresh things never need too much seasoning to make it nice, it is nice naturally! The flesh was extremely fine and smooth. 

So the conclusion is that not all the dishes and seafood are equally good, the Huang Ti noodles and the mantis were just substandard and I don't think it deserves the price. If you really wish to visit this restaurant, make sure you order their live seafood which I think to be more worthy for the sake of your pocket and wallet.

My sister was craving for crabs and seafood before she going back to campus. Not too easy to find a seafood restaurant during lunch hour, luckily this Hooi Wang Restaurant provides it! Even Hooi Wang is not situated besides the sea, but they do offer some decent fresh seafood in their menu.
The classical outlook of most Chinese Oriental restaurant. Red lanterns are always the selection to decorate.
The logo of Hooi Wang, comprises of red and yellow, the favourite auspicious colours. As the logo shown, Hooi Wang is also famous with their steamboat!
Salted Pork Kai Lan  咸肉芥兰

Started our meal with some green. To make the normal Kai Lan the special one, the chef added in salted pork to enhance the flavours, a very good attempt indeed,  no much seasoning is needed as the salted pork is quite sufficient in that. 
Homemade Taufu with Prawn, Crabmeat in Abalone Sauce
贵妃豆腐  RM18
The homemade Taufu is extremely silky smooth, accompanying by prawn, crabmeat and abalone sauce. The seafood sauce was very well made, the sticky-ness is just right to cling on the tau fu and prawn.
Thai Style Pork Shank  泰式猪脚

The pork shank is deep fried till crispy, i thought the meat will be very tough since it was just being deep-fried (normally pig shank will be braised for long hours to get tender texture). I was so surprise for its easy off bone texture and the amazing crispy outer layer of the shank. And it is very rich in collagen, good for skin indeed! Dip in some Thai chilies sauce to get better taste.
Two Flavour Fish 双味红西鱼  RM50
This dish enabled me to enjoy two different flavours in a plate. Part of the fish was being deep-fried, while a part of it was being stir-fried. The deep-fried fish slices were quite crispy and goes well with the fried ginger. On the other hand, the other part of the fish was stir-fried with spring onion, presented a lighter flavour, but very well in retaining the freshness of the fish.

Pepper Crab with Vermicelli in Claypot

The leading role for the lunch came at last! The fresh big crab was served with vermicelli in claypot. It is really a good idea to add vermicelli, allowed it to absorb the essence from the crab. Eating crab is always not an easy job, have to remove its hard shell before I able to enjoy it, the chef is quite thoughtful to break the shell before cook it, so it is more easier for me to eat without using hammer and tools!

Hooi Wang Restaurant is definitely not the best place to have seafood, but it serves as a good alternative when there is no good seafood restaurant during lunch hour.
