Restaurant Shelaiton 喜来登饭店 @ Juru Auto City, Penang

Restaurant Shelaiton 喜来登饭店 @ Juru Auto City, Penang

I was in Restaurant Shelaiton again. It was not a special occasion, but to celebrate the short reunion of my family and perhaps a farewell feast for me. My last visit was about half year ago and today again, I am here craving for their pork ribs.
Braised Shark's Fin Soup with Bamboo Fungus  竹笙盅仔翅
RM35 per person
Missing their flavourful shark's fin soup since last dinner, this time I definitely would not miss out it. Supreme quality ingredients were using to complete the soup, so the price of RM 35 per person is certainly worthy.
Prosperous Four Dishes Combination  喜来登热荤
RM100
The four dishes combination is one of their signature too. I love their idea by putting all good stuffs in a plate! Allow me to eat all delicious signature dishes in one time. I enjoyed their smoked duck slices the most, the meat is tender and juicy, perfectly matched with the Thai style sauce.
The Butter Cream Pork Ribs was good too, very fragrant with a hint of curry leaves. Every piece of the pork ribs were being clinged by the creamy butter cream sauce, good to go with a bowl of steamed rice!
Seafood Prawn Ball  海鲜虾球
Distinguished from the normal cooking method of deep-frying, the seafood prawn balls here are made using minced seafood and using the light cooking method of steaming. The cooking method is just right to remain the sweetness and freshness of seafood.
Steamed Cod Fish  清蒸鳕鱼  RM76
The cod fish is delicious too even it was only simply steamed with supreme soy sauce. The soy sauce gave appropriate saltiness to the fish, at the same time did not take away the shine of the cod fish as the main role of the dish! The cod fish was very well-steamed, it can be easily shown by its smooth texture!
Fried Rice Noodle with Assorted Seafood
海鲜干炒河粉  RM35
The supreme version of Fried Rice Noodles! Every single bites of it contain different surprise of different seafood, like big fresh prawn, generous pieces of squid, crab sticks and etc.

Overall, the quality and standard of foods in Restaurant Shelaiton are quite consistent, the foods were equally good on my two visits. Besides, the price is quite reasonable too, to enjoy foods with quality on par with five star hotel's restaurant.

Skudai Duck Noodles & Rice Restaurant 士古来鸭肉 @ Skudai, JB

Skudai Duck Noodles & Rice Restaurant 士古来鸭肉 @ Skudai, JB

For the sake of preparing documents for job application in Singapore, I was staying in Johor Bahru for few days. One night, the famous Skudai duck was on one of the Singapore TV show and it attracted me as the restaurant is just 30 minutes drive-away. Thus we were heading to the famous Skudai duck on the weekend.

The chef was cutting the duck! According to the interview done by the TV show, the pot for braising the duck has not yet been changed and washed for years since they operated decades ago. People always says that by doing that all the essence and good things remain in the pot for many years!Let me try their duck first and tell you whether it is true later lar~
It was still very packed and crowded even we reached there post lunch hour. Perhaps it is the impact of TV show? But we were lucky enough to grab a table once we reached! However, we had to wait and starve about half an hour before our meal being served. The weird part was everyone were also sitting quietly and patiently for the famous braised duck. Good things are worth to be waited?
Finally our turn! They serve plenty of side dishes: braised beancurd and egg, mustard, pig cheek and intestine. The portion shown above is well to feed 8 people.
Mustard 芥菜
RM3 ++
Instead of using pickled vegetables like many other braised duck shops do, the Skudai Duck Restaurant opted to use the green and fresh mustard without marinade and braise it with the flavourful duck gravy. So the texture is also different from what we normally had, the stem of mustard still remains its crunch and allow us to have little bitter taste from the vegetable itself.
Braised Taufu and Egg  豆腐卤蛋
RM0.70 per piece
Their braised taufu and egg are done well too after long hours in the braising gravy, fully absorbed the essence, the gravy was flowing out from the beancurd in my mouth!
Pig Cheek 猪头皮  RM4 ++
Pig Intestine  猪大肠  RM5 ++
My all time favourite of pig intestine, it is a must when I went for braised duck. The boss slices it into very thin pieces, but I prefer it to be in bigger chunk to have more biting texture. The pig cheek was surprising me, it was extremely crunchy with some soft bones, very good to munch on!
Famous  Braised Duck  卤鸭
RM21 (Half)  RM40 (Whole)
The main role of the meal! The boss makes himself special by debone, cutting and slicing the braised duck instead of "chopping" it. So it is more convenient to consume and pretty ladies can keep their image while having the succulent braised duck. Despite the light colour, the duck was extremely flavourful (Perhaps the impact of unchanged pot?) and goes well with a bowl of white fragrant steamed rice.
Besides, duck soup will be served along the meal. Overall, I think the restaurant deserves the reputation for its braised duck! The service was quite good too, but the speed of serving should be improved, it is torturing to wait for long times while the fragrance of braise duck keeps going out from the kitchen to seduce me.

Desaru Beach 迪沙鲁海滩 @ Johor, Malaysia

Desaru Beach 迪沙鲁海滩 @ Johor, Malaysia

Since I was in Johor, I decided to explore more points of interest nearby. Desaru, a small town in Kota Tinggi was famous with its beach. I was there on a random weekday to find out the beauty of the beach. I was taking the old route through Kulai to Desaru, spent one and a half hour to reach.
The main entrance of Desaru. After entered, we directly went to the public beach area. The parking fee surprised me, costed me RM4 for a peek to the beach and the sea.
The beach was quiet as it was weekday, no much people on the beach. Enjoy the breeze and the peace there. A good place to relax myself without any disturbance, however, it may indicate danger too, feeling unsecure without people around.
The lonely coconut tree standing alone on the seaside.
Here is me for accompanying the lonely one.
Tree with leaves.
Tree without leaves.
Time to leave! RM 4 is not really worthy, I was there only for less than an hour.
I was taking the newly opened Desaru-Senai Highway to go back.
Amazed by the great architectural bridge infront of us! It looks really beautiful.

Cheap Budget Hotels in KL @ iBilik

Cheap Budget Hotels in KL @ iBilik

I browse the site for an overview look. This platform really good in convenient for tenant nor Owner. Here have a very clean site without classify advertisement on the corner or the top of site. I like it personally. Every post of the room is classify accordingly to state and date. This make very convenient for searching. I dislike searching on the old post and make myself disappointed especially when saw a cheaper room, but it was rented out N year ago. Other than this, there are also classify all the popular/hot location for those as a refer price. As a smart consumer, you can compare the price within the same area, and not to be cheat by some agency, who mostly mark-up 10% or more on the price. NICE.

Plus an advantage of the site, they have short term rental column for those backpacker, travellers  homestay who want cheaper rate of price of their room and nearby location. SAVE budget. Some of them are likely to rent for a ten days or more. If stay in Hotel or Motel, they cannot save their budget and even spend more on other unnecessary hotel/motel facilities. I found out KL budget hotels they can rent for a day of some room/house for their business use in this website. QUICK and Convenient choice.

BONUS : This site is updated daily basic and posted directly from the house owner themselves. So, you will get the latest cheaper price and faster reply from the house owner. Don't get some outdated news and make yourself a disappointment. Have a great day!! ^^

Sukico Hainan Cafe @ Damansara Utama (Uptown), Petaling Jaya

Sukico Hainan Cafe @ Damansara Utama (Uptown), Petaling Jaya

"The Good Old Days Are Here Again"
In a random noon, where I saw "pork chop here pork chop there" in facebook posted by my foodie friends. And it made me craving for pork chop as my brunch, Yut Kee is too far away from me while I had visited Ting's Cafe previously, so I googled and got this Sukico Hainan Cafe. So I headed to Sukico to satisfy my desire on Hainanese Pork Chop. Sukico (Suki - in Hainanese is "mate") is a hidden gem in Damansara Utama for vintage Hainan cuisine, Sukico's signature dishes include the claypot stew, Chicken Cordon Bleu, Authentic style Hainanese Pork Chop and Roti Babi (Pork Bun). It also serves full-course English breakfast.
Sukico was originally located at Jalan SS21/39, Damansara Utama, but has moved a road away to No 59G, Jalan 21/60, Damansara Utama. The outlook of the restaurant is not too attractive where if I am not purposely looking for pork chop, I bet I will never step into the shop. Sorry to judge the book by its cover.
Hainan Tea  RM3.80
Hainan Bun with Butter and Kaya  RM3.50
Traditional Hainanese Breakfast with a cup of Hainan Tea and Hainan Bun. The tea was nice with its outstanding fragrance, no excessive sugar added, so it taste pure. If you are a sugar lover, you can add on brown sugar on the table to your liking. The round  Hainan Bun is super fluffy and soft, it is even more perfect with the homemade Kaya.
Roti Babi (Traditional)  RM9.80
Roti Babi is bun with minced meat filling, the cooking method is similar to french toast where it is coated with egg and pan-fried it to golden brown in colour. This is my first try on Roti Babi anyway, due to my curiosity on its name. The minced meat filling was very flavourful and definitely porkilicious as well!
Hainanese Style Pork Chop  RM16.80
Hainanese Pork Chop is the reason I was here and it made my day! The generous portion of the pork chop was quite surprising me. The authentic tomato sauce was great too, with a balance of sweet and sour, totally opened up my palate. Its served with French Fries, Coleslaw & Mixed Vegetables. Choice of sauce are black pepper, mushroom or Authentic sauce.

Overall, the foods here are great with the old and authentic Hainanese taste, now I have more choices when I craving for Hainanese dishes, and Sukico Hainan Cafe is definitely one the restaurant where I could seek for nostalgic taste and flavour.

A random picture-- some oil painting on the wall.

Cappuccino Single Shot  RM6.20
I want a bear, and they really gave me a bear on the top of my cappucino! And I heard that you can also order "pikachu" or "dragon ball"! Ooops, sorry for my excitement over the pattern and forgot to tell you the taste. I am not a coffee addicter, so I choose for single shot, the coffee aroma is great, and the bitterness was just suit to my liking with half packet of brown sugar.
Caramel Latte Single Shot  RM6.80
Caramel Latte is suitable for those who like sweet coffee! As requested, the bear is on the coffee again. Really bear not to stir my coffee to destroy its cute face. Nice to see and good to drink!
Hot Chocolate  RM6.90
Hot chocolate is just not within their specialty. So everyone please order coffee at Barista Coffee lar.
Marble Cheese Cake  RM7
The cake is very rich in cheese (of course lar, this is cheese cake ok?!) I am quite satisfied over the cheese cake overally, with a cup of hot coffee. Perfect match.
Durian Puff
RM5.90 (3pcs) / RM10.90(6pcs) / RM17.90 (10pcs)
Durian puff is another must in Barista Coffee. The pastry is super fluffy and the durian filling inside was flowing in my mouth when having a bite on it. A tropical Malaysian flavour, and it reminded me that it is durian season again!

2 Meals at Johor Bahru City Square Shopping Mall

2 Meals at Johor Bahru City Square Shopping Mall

Last week, I was pass-by City Square due to my personal stuff and crossed over to Singapore for several day. For those who goes Singapore very often, City Square is not too strange for them as it is the shopping complex just next to the Immigration Complex of Malaysia. Therefore, I was settle my daily meal at City Square, where I consider it is a strategic place to have meal after immigration clearance or before immigration. This post will featured up 2 restaurant/cafe where I think is nice to recommend to all.

Robins Portuguese Chicken
Robins Portuguese Chicken is located at second floor of City Square, occupied a corner of the food street with its bright colour tables and chairs. Other than their speciality Portuguese chicken and egg tarts, they are also offering a wide of halal Portuguese and Macau delights. Why Macau delights? It is because Macau is previous colony of Portugal, and impact a lot on Macau's foods and culture.

Chicken Chop Bun  RM6.80
This is a halal version of Macau Pork Chop Bun, by replacing the pork chop with chicken chop. Despite there is no pork in the bun, the chicken was well marinated to make it taste 99% like Chinese Char Siew, very flavourful and juicy.
Portuguese Half Chicken with Spaghetti  RM12.90
I was shocked that half chicken with spaghetti and coleslaw only costed me RM12.90, definitely worth for the price. The chicken is well baked till crispy of its outer layer and juicy inside. On the other hand, the spaghetti is normal and nothing to shout to, but it served a big portion of carbohydrate to fill my stomach.

SDS Cafeteria 新利香
SDS is the concept of combination of bakery and cafe, located at the basement one of City Square, neighbouring Zen Shabu Shabu and Stone Grill.

SDS claims that their pastry are freshly baked daily. I didn't try on their pastry as I was looking for my lunch. But the crowd of people in the bakery definitely prove the quality of their pastry.
We ordered a spaghetti, chicken chop and a drink. The drink was served first before we started our meal.
Blue Hawaii Soda  RM4.90
It was my favourite drink years back to my secondary school life, where there was always a bubble tea stall outside the school and I often went for this drink despite its very-chemical-blue-colour. I wonder SDS City Square is still selling it and I decided to give it a try, disappointing when I found the taste was different. Anyway, it is still a nice and chilled sparkling drink during hot day.
Carbonara Cheese Spaghetti  RM12.90
I just can say they are not expert in spaghetti, or my taste bud is spoiled by too many good spaghetti before? The sauce is too thick, sticky and milky, I prefer it too be more cheesy and lighter.
Grilled Chicken Chop  RM14.90
Luckily their grilled chicken chop with black pepper sauce was quite good to savour to. The key of success is their marinade and the chicken was grilled quite well.

There are few more restaurants which look interesting to me and I shall come again and discover more!
