Nijyumaru 二重丸日本料理 @ Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai, Johore Bharu

Nijyumaru 二重丸日本料理 @ Taman Sutera Utama, Skudai, Johor Bharu

There is quite a long time did not enjoy a proper Japanese cuisine, just because I am not too familiar with reputable Japanese restaurant in JB and most of the time Sushi King is the only one I always saw in shopping mall. By chance, I get to know this Nijyumaru, a Japanese restaurant nearby Sutera Mall, it is always mentioned and ranked by Johorean as one of the famous and best Japanese restaurant in town. Our first visit to Nijyumaru was quite spontaneous, without making reservation. Yeah, we underestimated the restaurant as we thought walk in would be sufficient for us to enjoy their cuisine. The restaurant was so crowded, and we got our seat, but only can stay for an hour as the table was reserved by others on next hour. Just to avoid the awkward situation like us,  you can make an early reservation to secure your seat.
Their big name on the big wall, as everyone would not be avoided to see it. The combination of black and golden simply put up the modern Japanese feel, red lanterns hanging up around the restaurant, especially shining and attracts attention at night. The interior design is collocated and consistent with the exterior, the lighting is dim yet warm,  I can easily feel myself seated in a traditional Japanese restaurant from the ambiance and menu. Although we were only given an hour for dinner, we were lucky enough to be seated just next to the floor-to-ceiling-window, it sounds very romantic right? To be slightly better and enjoy the ambiance, I still prefer to sit on "Tatami" floor rather than modern table or just in front sushi bar (their sushi bar was too constrained).

Had a look on their menu and found most of the authentic Japanese cuisine. Their pricing is similar to Sushi Zanmai, which is quite worthy to savour good Japanese food. When in Japanese restaurant, baby octopus, bento and Japanese ramen are always the items we won't missed out. What surprised us is the big portion of food, it just does not look like one-man-portion, fully satisfied a big guy like me!
Spicy Baby Octopus  小章鱼  RM7
Marinated Baby Octopus was the first on table as appetizer, it tasted no much different from other Japanese restaurant, but we still love it very much. And Nijyumaru will be my first choice in future when I craving for baby octopus, because of the portion, RM 7 for quite a big plate.
Grilled Salmon with Sauce 酱烤鲑鱼片 RM16
The grilled salmon bento set comprises a bowl of rice, a large piece of salmon, salad, miso and fruits. As the leading role in the bento, the salmon is well marinated with sauce before grilled. If you like the fish to be tasted in its original flavour, there is an alternative that the fish to be seasoned only by a little bit of salt.
Nijyumaru Ramen 二重丸拉面  RM16
Craving for a bowl of authentic Japanese Ramen, decided to give their signature Nijyumaru Ramen a try. Didn't know it will be in the hot and spicy red colour when placing order, my fault for not really looking into the description. The ramen is topped with various seafood, Japanese fish cake and etc. The minced meat and corns makes the soup looks not so clean and clear, but quite in flavour.Out of my expectation, the ramen was not too spicy and is of the level that I still can tahan. Not tooo bad, at least the taste and the noodles are nearer to the real original ramen.

Friendly reminder, the time we left the restaurant, the crowd was queuing outside for a seat, so please be early or make early reservation to avoid crowd.
