Authentic Johor Baru Kuey Tiao Kia 老字号新山粿条仔 @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Baru

Authentic Johor Baru Kuey Teow Kia 老字号新山粿条仔 @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Baru

Have been trying few famous kuey teow kia in Johor Bahru, and this shop near to the wet market in Taman Sri Tebrua has become one of my favourite. The name of the restaurant, claiming itself as an authentic restaurant for Kuey Teow Kia in Johor Bahru. I am not too sure about its authenticity, but its kuey teow kia one of the most delicious and just right to my taste.

We normally visit the restaurant during dinner time. Other than the tables in the shop, they also get ready with another half dozen of tables, to cater the bigger crowd later in night.

The herbal broth is lighter in colour but is sufficiently flavourful.

Our all-time favourite side dishes to go with the kuey teow kia are beancurd skin, pig intestine, pig skin, braised egg, pork belly, all of which are very tasty as they have fully absorbed the essence of the broth. This Authentic Johor Bahru has become one of our regular places for kuey teow kia, the main reason being is their consistent quality and standard, the same good taste is maintained all the while.

J.C. Cafe @ Jalan Serampang, Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor

J.C. Cafe @ Jalan Serampang, Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor

J.C. Cafe is located along the street of bridal shops in Jalan Serampang, right next to Spozami Wedding Mansion and above the event hall known as Alivia. We visited J.C. Cafe in the early afternoon for late lunch, hence not too many patrons and we were able to enjoy the quiet and peaceful environment of the cafe.

The entrance of J.C. Cafe with the artificial lawn and the blackboard on the wall, the elements of Korean garden style.

The interior of the cafe is nicely decorated too, laminated wooden floor, few garden style round tables with grandeur golden chairs.

British style floral sofa are placed by the window, ideally matched with the lace curtain, which allow sunshine to penetrate through.

Omelette with Smoked Duck  RM16.90
The dishes on the menu are quite limited, mainly comprised of western foods. The omelette with smoked duck not only looked attractive in the menu, and the taste did not disappoint me too. The savoury smoked duck played an important role in perfecting this dish.
J.C. Big Breakfast  RM16.90
J.C. Big Breakfast was abundantly presented with sunny side-up, ham, stir-fried mushroom, wedges, sausage, bread and salad, all in a plate! It is perfectly satisfying~

Despite the limited choice of foods, I am very in love with the environment of the cafe, very suitable for afternoon tea or if you want to enjoy a quiet afternoon with a good book.

Naughty Nuri's Warung @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bharu

Naughty Nuri's Warung @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bharu

Finally, the Bali's branded grilled pork rib has landed in Johor Bahru, being the third branch in Malaysia following its set up in Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Just a brief introduction on Naughty Nuri's Warung, it is a famous bar and grill from Bali with their signature Nuri's special pork ribs which pair best with their famous Shake Shake Martini. From its name, we knew that its operation in Bali started as a "warung (roadside stall)" and over the years, it has gained its reputation and becomes a point of attraction for tourists from various countries. Just like its other branches in Malaysia, Naughty Nuri's Warung in Johor Bahru has replicated the setting in Bali with the wooden traits in the restaurant and the artistic sculpture, no photos were taken on the environment, so you may pay a visit to the restaurant to experience the atmosphere of Bali.

Naughty Nuri's Warung Johor Bahru is occupying the first corner unit at Jalan Serampang, which can be easily seen immediately after your turning into Jalan Serampang. With its significant red wall, it is not too hard to be identified.

The grill kitchen is just behind the transparent glass, which allow the diners to witness the process of making the famous pork rib.

Nuri's Famous Pork Ribs  RM45
The Pork Ribs were char-grilled to its perfection and the marination performed its role very well to enable the pork ribs absorb with the essence of the Balinese spices. The portion is good for 2 to share if you want to check out for more dishes. The meat was tender and juicy, which was easily torn apart. The pork rib was also served with the sweet and peppery sauce which provides additional kicks.

Balinese Seafood Nasi Goreng  RM20
To add variety to our dinner, we also ordered the Balinese Seafood Nasi Goreng. which served with ikan bilis, crackers and their special green sambal. Although the portion is rather small, but they are not sloppy in the ingredients used, there were various seafood hidden within the fried rice, such as prawn and squid. The fried rice turned out to be surprisingly good, especially eat with the green sambal.

We will definitely come back again for their Shake Shake Martini, which we missed out this round. Hope to enjoy the martini shaken in front of us very soon.

Tian Huat Restaurant 添华肉骨茶 @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bharu

Tian Huat Restaurant 添华肉骨茶 @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bharu

Craving for Bak Kut Teh, but do not intend to visit the "Soon Huat" nearby repeatedly and wish to try out something new. We went to a Bak Kut Teh restaurant which operates from a corner lot residential house, named as Tian Huat.

 RM11/person
Similar to most of the Bak Kut Teh in Johor, Tian Huat also serves Bak Kut teh in claypot. As usual, we love variety and ordered a mixed pot with not only pork ribs, but also pig intestine, stomach, beancurd skin and enoki mushrooms. The broth isn't too bad with the slight herbal taste, very good to go with white rice. The best part is we can refill the broth without additional charges.

Silver Pomfret at RM6/100g

Other than Bak Kut Teh, they also offer asam pedas steamed fish, which you can choose from kembong fish or any other fresh fishes available on that day, Silver pomfret is the alternative on the day of our visit and we opt to go for it. The marinade is well and the asam pedas sauce just suits my liking.

Restoran Ah Piaw 亚標云吞面 @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bharu

Restoran Ah Piaw 亚標云吞面 @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor Bharu

Being a sunny weekend, we hop down to the famous spot of wantan noodles in Johor Bharu. How to determine of its popularity? This can be easily show that where they actually set up quite a lot table at the roadside welcoming all people. This wantan noodles used to be a favourite spot for night-hunter for late-supper, as this is the only place selling wantan noodles until late night, even after you finished the last drop of liquor at pub.
Notwithstanding of its unique business hour, their noodles was also another attraction, which successfully attract most of the people here for their famous wantan noodles. As usual, we ordered two different flavour of noodles, the original and also spicy version to make comparison.
Spicy Wan Tan Noodles 辣味云吞面  RM5.50
For the sake of trying, we order mild level of spicy flavour for this wantan noodles. The spicy-ness can be adjusted according to individual's acceptability. Overly hot and spicy may easily kill the appetite, but this is definitely not the one that will not irritate us to stop, because the spicy-ness is just right. Mix it well before tuck in, yum yum.
This is something about Johor style wanton mee, after I tasted quite a number of wanton mee stall in Johor. Char Siew seems to be not the emphasis of wanton mee if compared to KL style. Hong Kong styled roasted char siew is rarely used here, so the noodles itself play a more important role in determining a good bowl of wanton mee.
Original Wan Tan Noodles 原味云吞面  RM5.50
The original flavour was slightly plain in taste and too dry for me (I am the kind of people who like my rice to be "banjir" with kuah). So,  I found it better after I poured in some soup. One point worth to be complimented is the noodles is well-cooked, I like the springy-ness and the not- too-soft texture.
This is yet to be the best wanton mee in town, but definitely satisfy your craving during late night.

Taman Sri Tebrau Hawker Centre 大马花园小贩中心 @ Taman Sri Tebrau, Johor

Taman Sri Tebrau Hawker Centre 大马花园小贩中心

There are several famous food court around Sri Tebrau area, the hawker centre in Taman Sri Tebrau is definitely one of the top, not only local favourite, but also hot spot for Singaporean to have a good and worthy seafood feast on weekend's night.Other than typical hawker food, there are few seafood stall in the hawker centre too, offering fresh seafood with competitive price, to get a good deal? Ask around and compare the price before you place order.

I was here for a quick dinner before I back to reality (Singapore), so seafood was not my ultimate reason here. Looking some easy and comfort food, and kuey teow soup caught my attention. The stall is operated in yong tau foo style where the diner can pick up their favourite side dishes--variety of yong tau foo and deep fried snacks to add on the noodles.
Yang Tau Fu 酿豆腐  RM5
My noodles with yong tau foo in soup. The taste of yong tau foo is outstanding, bt definitely good matched with the sweet black sauce.

The Bak Kut Teh stall opposite Kuey Teow soup was my another choice to cure my sudden crave for pork. Ordered for a mix pork soup, served with a white rice. Initially I asked for yam rice, but too bad, it was sole out.
Mix Pork Rice 猪杂汤饭  RM6
The soup is cooked with pickled vegetables, which provide some sourness to the soup, good to open up the flavour. Anyway, the variety of the pig innards is not that much as I expected.

I don't know how others rate this hawker centre, but for the two stalls I have visited, honestly, the foods are just so so only. I heard there is a nyonya kueh stall which opens in the afternoon is quite good, perhaps that is the true attraction?
