Moonlight Cake House @ Taman Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru

Moonlight Cake House @ Taman Bukit Indah, Johor Bahru

Once in a bluemoon, I step in into a cafe which famous with their bakery especially their fresh baked cake, which fresh delivery from central kitchen daily by their own courier. Guaranteed fresh and not overnight leftover bakery or cake. Not every chained cafe able to maintain and oversee all the branches, Moonlight has done quite a good job.
The interior design is good, with the dim lighting. But the most attractive part is at the entrance, the display with colourful and look-so-delicious cakes! If you can't imagine how lovely it looks like, please refer to the photo below!
Deng~ various cakes are displayed and give a warm welcome to the visiting guests. It looks so tempting to me even though I am not a sweet tooth. My visit to Moonlight Cake House was a week before Christmas and they actually offer their special handmade log cake for their loyal customer and open for Christmas celebration booking.

Beside that, they also provide some merchant chocolate and also accept order to customize cake for kids birthday. I personally feel that all the cake here were well decorated from the well combination of colour till fine art on the top of cake. I am impressed with their heedful idea.

After the visual enjoyment, it is time to enjoy our cakes. A cup of good coffee must not be missed out to go with cakes!
Mocha 摩卡  RM7.90
It was around 9 o'clock at night, just to avoid insomnia, we ordered mocha, which has lesser caffeine but contains hot milk and chocolate. It is quite well done, as the milk froth on top is very smooth and fine. If you are coffee lover just because of its bitterness, mocha would suit you the most as it tastes sweetness in the meantime does not lose the spirit and fragrance of coffee. It is just nice to go with a piece of cake.
Panna Tsuki 宝蓝月特调  RM7.50
The name is interesting and attract my curiosity. Typical ice blended coffee with whipped cream on the top. The gradation of colour reminds me of the three layers milk tea in Sarawak. Do you have the same feel? Anyway, I like it because it is very creamy! It looks fat and high cholesterol with bulk cream, but who cares? I just have it once in a while, just to pamper myself on a random night.
Lisy Oreo  RM6.80
Oreo remains the popular ingredient for dessert, let it continue to be the leading role in this piece of cake. Chocolate mousse cake with Oreo biscuit in between, give double biting texture, crispy biscuit and melt-in-mouth cake, simply enjoyful.
Mango Yogurt  RM6.80
I always love fruit cake, it tastes refreshing and natural. This mango yogurt makes me deeply falling in love with it too. The mango on the top was super sweet, very appetizing and nevertheless give some sense of healthy,  LIKE!
Dragon Mango Prawn 芒果虾卷  RM6.50
This is one of the favourite dimsum whenever I pay visit to dimsum restaurant. Saw this in the menu and cannot resist myself from ordering. Kindly disappointed with the little-bit-burnt-skin, despite it tasted equally crispy and the filling was not too bad with fresh prawn and mango. Overall, the presentation was so so but still satisfied my craving.

In a nutshell, Moonlight is a good place for friends to hang out together, a cup of coffee and a piece of good cake, enough for me to spend my whole afternoon with the appropriate ambience. If you ever drop by for a proper meal, they also provide some main courses.

Kafe Enam Puluhan @ Stulang Laut, Johor Bharu

Kafe Enam Puluhan @ Stulang Laut, Johor Bharu

Just few days back, I smell something so familiar to me when I was having my lunch. Is there anything caught my attention? Yay absolutely I saw a big bowl of Mee Rebus placed at next table. In this situation, I promise myself to have great meal on the next day. On the night before, I search through internet and found this locally well-known Mee Rebus cafe, which root at the same place for more than 10 years history.
Kafe Enampuluhan is situated next to New Hong Kong and a grand-looking Indonesian restaurant, compared to them Kafe Enampuluhan usually be overlooked because of its unobvious and non-attractive look, but somehow when craving for famous Mee Rebus this place will automatically appear on my mind. Keep attract my attention until I first sip on their soup base. Unforgotten taste!
Mee Rebus  RM3
Mee rebus is brother of Mee Jawa in Penang, both are my favourite. Johor style Mee Rebus is topped with halved boiled egg and some crispy keropok, make the overall texture interesting, squeeze in some lime juice to make it taste a little bit refreshing and appetizing. The gravy is flavourful and thick enough to cling on every single noodles! Nice~

Otak Kempas Otak-otak RM0.60 per stick
Kafe Enam Puluhan offers too Kempas Otak-otak, is in hot red colour, don't be scared away by its colour, it does not represent the level of spicy anyway, surprisingly it comes with sweetness. Somehow I still prefer Muar style otak with more fragrance of coconut milk and fresh fish and prawn chunks inside.

The Wood House @ Taman Indahpura, Kulai, Johor

The Wood House @ Taman Indahpura, Kulai, Johor

Came to The Wood House for an early dinner, before I depart to Singapore to face a stressful working week ahead. The Wood House running its business as a pub and bistro, therefore their menu base mainly on varieties of beer. We were here in the early evening, where the crowd for happy hour was definitely not there, neither us coming for happy hour, just with the hope for a decent quick dinner.
The exterior look of the cafe, the billboard is not attractive, don't you have the same thought? But the interior look and set up was quite nice, especially during the festive season of Christmas. Yet, we chose to have outdoor seat, so sorry for no shot for the interior look.
Mongolia Fish Fillet 蒙古鱼柳 RM12.90
Their food menu is rather limited, only few choices of fish and chips and chicken chop. We opts for the signature Mongolia fish fillet and salad chicken chop. Fish fillet come with a little portion of coleslaw and fries. The breaded fish fillet is showered with the Mongolia sweet and sour sauce.  Overall, it is quite appetizing with the sauce and some fruit dices on top, very refreshing.
Salad Chicken Chop 沙律鸡扒  RM12.90
Chicken chop comes with coleslaw, egg and fries. The presentation reminds me the Roti Spiderman of Murni SS2, by using the mayonies to decorate the dish. Despite the chicken chop looks heavy and oily, it is quite well done when I actually try a small bite. Crispy on the outside while soft, tender and juicy on the inside.

Overall, the food is good, but due to the limited choices offered by the cafe, I don't think I will re-visit. Hopefully the owner will provide and invent more dishes into the food menu.

Permas Yong Taufu 美乐亞蓉釀豆腐 @ Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, JB

Yong Taufu @ Kedai Kopi Sin Yong 美乐亞蓉釀豆腐 @ Bandar Baru Permas Jaya, JB

Its had been a long time since my last Yong Taufu meal at Puchong last year. Have a walk in Popular bookshop, randomly pick up a book with recommendation of good foods and reputable restaurant around Johor. Sin Yong Yong Taufu, which is located at Permas Jaya is one of the recommendations. I call this trip as food culture discovery, because even though Yong Taufu can be found in everywhere of Malaysia, but the taste and the making method may be differ from each other, to suit the local liking. So I was here, to check out Johor-styled Yong Taufu.
Yong Taufu here looks not much difference, vegetable stuffed with fish paste or meat paste. The only unique part is that you can either a big bowl of Yong Taufu to go with rice, or add on Yong Taufu of your choice on noodles. So the steps are as follows:

1. Choose your noodles or rice, and tell the boss you want soup or dry version.
2. Choose your choice of Yong Taufu.
3. If you want your Yong Taufu to be fried, put it in plate, while if you want Yang Taufu to be boiled with
soup, put it in a bowl.
4. Take your seat and wait your noodles and Yong Taufu to be served.
Various choices of Yong Taufu are displayed on the stall, besides Yong Tauhu, Sin Yong Kopitiam also very famous with their special dried meat (Bak Gua), we didn't try it anyway because it is quite pricey.
Every bowl of noodles is RM3.50 with extra charge of Yong Taufu RM0.80 per piece. Anyway, they are famous with dried hor fun. However, we didn't go for dried Hor Fun, instead, we had soup hor fun and dried mee.
This is the Yong Taufu I pick up for the dried noodles. The ordinary noodles will come with a bowl of soup and their fish balls (some says it is actually pork meat ball, but the texture tasted more like fish paste, I don't really mind what it is, as long as it tastes good). I like also the seaweed roll with fish paste, quite Japanese sushi-style of Yong Taufu, very creative indeed.
Dry Noodles 干捞面  RM3.50
Every ordinary bowl of noodles will also be topped with their special made fried fish cake (it looks like luncheon meat), a very thin piece while it is super crispy. It is good too if take the fried fish cake alone as snack.
Hor Fun 河粉汤  RM3.50
The soup version is come with fried fish cake and fish balls too. Not to forget a spoon of minced meat. The Yong Taufu were good, just the soup is of little bit tasteless. Overall, I still more prefer their dried version noodles, which is more flavourful and more opens up my appetite.

Perhaps will revisit the kopitiam for their famous bak gua in future? Hope their bak gua won't disappoint me.
